Quick note on BoB’s disappearance

Since everyone and his mother is donning the tinfoil hat about what happened and what will happen next I figured I’d do the bloggy thing and get out the soapbox and do some soothsaying.

  • Director who’s name is sure to live in infamy in GBC sells out the alliance to the Goons
  • Theft of resources, general rolestripping and kickage of people, then disbanding the alliance
  • The alliance BoB disappears, poof, Goons create a corp named BoB, thus essentially “stealing their banner”
  • This also means that BoB sov goes poof, with all that that entails
  • People freak out, call Goons lame and cheaters and whatnot, call for CCP to retcon, or leave things be, or whatever
  • One traitor able to do this much damage; design flaw or working as intended? People can’t agree
  • People think metagaming is lame, atleast when bad stuff happens to them
  • CCP will investigate the matter and probably find that all is kosher
  • A change in the alliance mechanics is possible, but old BoB is gone
  • BoB will reform under a new banner, albeit weaker than before, due to the theft, people hauling ass and possibly due to general lack of trust over leadership and internal security
  • Goons will be Goons

Hell, I can make shit up and take wild guesses as good as the next guy. Fox News should hire me.

IMO: great coup and I’ve got an emotional hardon for the Goon spymaster Mittani. This of course only as long as things happened the way the Goons propagandamachine claim it to have happened.

  1. It’s pretty sexy all the way around, but tbh, the alliance disbanding mechanic is bad design. At least require a vote. Even locking down a blueprint requires that much effort. That said, I hope there is no rollback. Let the chips fall where they may. It keeps New Eden dynamic!

  2. Yeah, I copy that sentiment: the mechanic can be fixed and/or redesigned, as long as there’s no rollback. Barring the revelation of any hacking of accounts and other EULA breaking actions it was a clean kill, so to speak. Of course people will be shouting bloody murder over this even so, but that’s to be expected.

  3. My brother-in-law has an interesting view of video games. When he wins, it is due to skill. When he loses, it must be a flaw in the game or due to lag.

    That is just plain dumb.

They were beaten. Let them die (or reform).

It is an excellent time to reveiw game mechanics and adjust as necessary. Voting to disband the alliance is a great idea.

  4. What a lot of people fail to realise is that there already are mechanics in place to prevent this happening and that there will always be need of the ‘superdirector’ position, for example; attempt to salvage a time critical situation like this at 4am in the morning when everyone else is asleep.

I guess the moral of the story is not piss off the guys in your alliance that have the ability to pull the plug on everything. Ironic that it was bob who originally attempted to erradicate them from the game back when they were just starting out and because of this i think it’s bob’s own damn fault.
